First Meta is a credit system in second life. People can purchase items from special vendors when they don't have the cash to antie up, and then pay it off later. For anyone who has a positive balance, there is interest to be made.

To get get around the banking regulations that the lindens have imposed on savings accounts, First Meta has changed to a rewards program. If you have a certain amount of lindens (starting at 1001 L$) in your account, then you get a certain amount (between 10 and 650) of meta points. Be careful not to confuse MetaPoints TM with Metapoints, Metapoints. or even Metapoints.

The meta points have a direct conversion rate where 1 MP can be exchanged for 1 L$. I don't know about any one else, but this sounds like laundering interest. It's just L$ going by another name.

First Meta - First Redundancy
I joined up with the First Meta card a while back as a merchant. It had a lot of potential provided that many people used it. The idea was simple. People could purchase your products on credit if they had a First Meta account. You would get your money and they would owe First Meta. I had setup an information display about the credit card and vendors to allow people either use the card or buy items direct. Over the months, the only sales I got were direct sales. Apparently no one was using a First Meta account. As a merchant, the service is practically redundant since everyone who is purchasing something from me already has the available funds. I could put the extra prims to better use.
