Megaprim Optimization
Last night I made some megaprims. Today I was able to replace existing prims in my shop. I had a reduction of 85 prims! I've set all of them to be phantom except for the floor in my shop. MegaPrims cause a few problems with physics, so setting them as phantom helps avoid any issues. I tried making a few more mega prims today, but I found that the Lindens had patched the servers to close the loop hole. I still haven't gotten around to checking the online shops for megaprims.

In the pursuit of quality
Catastrophe Supermarine was happy with the beta version of the mini countdown timer. I went on the refine the technique of updating the display to cut down on potential sim lag. Rather then send out updates to 30 people watching an event ever second, I'm working on a way to just send it out once every 10 - 15 seconds to keep the texture animation in synch. I had to create a new texture so that the numbers would count down in the correct order. I made a method call to also set a separate face to use the same texture, but static. It gets updated once a minute. Once this part is ready, I can start packaging it to sell.

Mini Countdown Timer
Catastrophe Supermarine found me through an old You-Tube video. In it, I showed off one of my prized projects - the wheel from the price is right. Catastrophe is interested in games and she asked me if any of my products would be useful in counting down 3 minutes to zero. I have a few different related products both in my store and my inventory, but nothing really seamed to fit the bill. I modified my countdown clock to be more appropriate. I still have some tweaks, but rite now, the new "Mini Countdown Timer" is ready for beta testing.

Elemental Vehicles
Seyana Lekach dropped by and started talking. All the while, I noticed she was changing her vehcile into different things. A bot, jetski, helicopter, motorcycle, and lots more. She said they were free at a secret location. I threatened her with my robots but she wouldn't let up until I said please. She offered to teleport me there and give me instructions.

Going scriptless
I've been noticing the large number of scripts in most networked vendors (Apez, SLX, JEVN and OnRez). Placing one vendor may be fine, but I often setup 32 of them to categorize my products. JEVN surprisingly has the least number. To improve performance on simulators, I'm degrading all of my vendors to single prims, no scripts, and default to buy. My main reason for networked vendors is to keep track of sales. I'll start to work on a way to automate the retrieval of my logs from the secondlife website to store within my own database. Logs are important so I can send out product updates.

Invasion of the robots
I logged in for a bit today and got a message from one of my new neighbors, Baba Yamamoto. Apparently he wants all my land in Hooper. To express his wishes, he rezzed a whole lot of robots along the edges of my shop with the will to invade it with blood lust. In retaliation, I had to make a few bots of my own. I made them so that when you touch them, they talk. I asked my neice what a robot would say if it was a friendly robot attacking another friendly robot. Her answer was "I will kill you" and smile. And then I asked her what another would say. "I will kill you 2 more times and you will die" giggle and smile. So I then proceeded to make some audio files. These robots are creepy and silly

The OnRez one-prim vendor
After messing around with the multi-panel vendor a bit, I was able to setup a functional one-prim vendor. I even set it up to display the products name and price with floating text above it. One problem with this setup is that I need to create a vendor pack for each item that I want to display. With over 100 products, that task doesn't look so great. I'll see if I can hack at it a bit more to allow me to use existing packages, but select specific items from that package instead of limiting it to the first. Perhaps there is an API we can work with to get around all of this.

Old neighbors dropping in
This has been a busy night. First Robbie Riptide pops into Second Life? after a year of silence. He dropped on by and said hello and we caught up on a lot of stuff. Just now, two more neighbors, also from the Higgins sim drove on in. They were driving around looking for gadget shops and found mine by chance. Danny Banjo and Valadimire Dougall give some updates on the big police station taking over the Higgins sim. Danny dropped the latest Sweet Potato Ocarina on me. They left almost as quickly as they came. One of the benefits of having a store front on the edge of a road on the main land.

A simple media player
Virtual Bacon was asking me if I knew of a simple button that people could press, and the media would play. The setup would need to be very simple as well. Most of my stuff is pretty feature heavy and I was up for a challenge of simplifying things. I've created three buttons here where each one will change the media. One is to a video, and the other two will load up web pages. People just click and it all works. Setup is simplified too. Spaces around parameters don't matter anymore. I often had problems with this in the past where people enter a space after an equal sign. Casing is insensitive. There is even an access list to determine who can use the items.

hello neighbor
Musa David popped on over to my new parcel and introduced herself as the kid from next door. I've noticed the MG (Musa & Graysen) Designs store with a great waterfront. Musa is just a few months older than I am. I don't see people older then I am much often these days. Musa filled me in on the past resident and was glad that I didn't lay down a concrete block when I arrived. Musa informed me of a robot called seth that hangs around too. Interesting times ahead I believe. Apparently her dad has heard of my blog and cartoons. Musa warned me not to mention "Hillary" near him or he'll keep talking.

I think you are confusing iran with iraq i made no mistake in my vote to authorize!

Optimizing prim count
I haven't had to deal with prim limitations much since I had moved away from the mainland onto my own sim. Now that I have a considerable amount of property on the mainland, I am now running into problems with prim limitations. I have reworked many parts of my building to appear to be made of more prims then what is actually present. I am finding that the tube is being used most often to give the expanded antenna effect. I've had to use mega prims to adjust for the floor. I only have a limited few to work with. It is hard to use them because you can not change the size to make them work better with the build. I've discovered a few problems, but it has only set me back by two extra prims.

Back on the mainland
Cyrus Huffhines advertised to a select few that he was tiering down and had a prime piece of real estate available. It bordered a road and had a nice waterfront. The astounding thing about this land was its neighbors. I already knew Acedia Albion covering most of the Bolinas sim. Across the road was a parcel owned by the libsecondlife folks. The land was first going for 50k, and then dropped to 25k L$ (about 100 US$). Covering 1824 sq. m., that brought the price down to 13.7 L$ / sq. m. For the waterfront, road, and neighbors, I was sold.

how to make an SL killer
Dude, look, I don't know who's reading this, but... MR. O. can tell you, "Home" will not be home. Sure, it will be home to some. How about "Apt."? Do you understand? The SL killers are not killers - yet. But if you want to know how to create an SL killer... you got to start up a chat w. - MRO.
